Zero Calorie Foods - What Are Those?
What Are Zero Calorie Foods?
Zero calorie foods actually do exist, they are technically called “negative calorie food”
What that means is it takes more calories to digest it than what the food actually has in it. They contain a lot of fiber, which is good for digestion. Digestion requires a lot of energy, so any calories you get from a “zero calorie” food in counteracted by digestion. The good thing about this is you are still getting vitamins and minerals from these foods and they are curbing your hunger so you don’t have to starve yourself or end up gorging on a lot of food.
A good example of a zero calorie food is celery. Celery has about 6 calories in it but it takes 40 calories to digest. I actually love celery. I’ve sat in restaurants and ordered just celery and people thought I was either on a diet or maybe broke, but if not that hungry or I don’t want to eat a lot I eat celery. But I always have it with ranch. So that spikes up my calorie intake…lol
But only use these foods as a sack or in addition to a meal. Do not try to eat a whole zero calorie meal. You body will go in what is called a fasting mode and you may end up gaining weight instead of losing it.
I suggest you eat 5-6 times a day. 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with a snack in between an after dinner snack would make the sixth so if you choose not to have it no biggie. But I’ve learned from experience that when I eat more frequently my metabolism speeds up. So by making your snack a zero calorie snack you are keeping your body fueled and taking in less calories.
You don’t want to starve your body. Something I’ve had to learn over time, thus causing me to eat breakfast. When you starve your body it begins to utilize its supply due to lack of energy. Your body needs energy to perform its basic functions like; breathing, heart beat, and thinking. Once you burn the stored fat your body will burn proteins and will cause the muscles and organs damage, they will begin to waste away. This is how people die of starvation.
When you decide to go on a diet you should calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) this tells you how many calories your body currently uses to maintain your current weight and it will tell you how much you need to cut back in order to start losing weight.
As always I suggest you go to WebMD and do a health evaluation. It gives you everything you need to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off.
