Tips for Celebrating New Year's Eve at Home

People love to go downtown or get dressed up for a party and dance the night away to ring in the New Year. The crowds, the people, the excitement, the cold…

If you aren’t one of those people then consider having a New Year's Eve party at home instead. Invite friends or just have the family.

Party Favors
No New Year's Eve celebration is complete without party hats, noisemakers, party poppers, top hats, etc. Pick up a package of these at any party supply outlet, the dollar store or sit down as a family and make your own.

"Champagne?"
Children don't drink champagne. Serve juice, sparkling cider, white grape juice or other non-alcoholic beverages in plastic champagne glasses.

Games
Decide ahead of time what kind of games to play. Make sure all age groups are included. Board games, cards, dance games are all part of the fun.

Decorating
Party decorations don't have to be expensive. Make part of the fun by having everyone make decorations.

Food
Let everyone decide together what they want to eat. Finger food is quick and easy. Use paper plates and plastic utensils just like at any other party.

Movies
Have the family get together and decide which movie they'd like to see again from the year, before the year is out. Make sure it's available and rent it.

Resolutions/Reflections
Have each family member write down ten reflections of the events for the year, and ten resolutions for the next year. Keep these in a special box and for next year, see who kept their resolutions and how their reflections might change.

Make the most out of celebrating with your family. Don’t just sit around the house and wait for midnight to pass you by, celebrate with those you love and make it memorable.

And…It Is What It Is!
